Corinne Bailey Rae is the Cure

Posted: 03/27/2007 by Caramel Latté

Have you ever had one of those nagging headaches that just wouldn’t go away? Getting rid of the ache without medicine would be difficult unless you had the soothing sounds of Corinne Bailey Rae in your ear. She has proved time and time again that she is the cure.

Corinne Bailey Rae was born and raised in England where she had her first taste of music studying classical violin. She would later develop an interest in singing while in church.

Rae’s various backgrounds have cultivated a much needed change for the music scene. She has created soulful sounds ranging from acoustic guitars to hip hop beats — a variation of which makes her music so much more enjoyable.

These musical variations manifest themselves on her self-titled album which was released back in February of 2006. Included on the disc are soulful ballads which enlighten, enrich and encourage daily living. Rae’s breakthrough song “Put your records on” is a good example, as you listen the words make you feel as though bad experiences have been erased.

Another song that has the ability to diminish worries is “Like a Star” (which is my personal fav). I could listen to it over and over again and never find it tiresome… maybe because it reminds me of how great love can make you feel (and I love that feeling). “Trouble Sleeping,” another one of my favs, paints a vocal picture that’s reminiscent of a problem so many have by trying to resist love because of the fear of being hurt.

Overall, Rae’s album is at the top of my list for those days when relaxation and self doubt are an issue (which are often). She inspires the best in you to shine with her words and melody. Rae’s album stands out as different from the general music society, and this is the sole reason why her album is the cure not only for headaches but things that may attribute to them (worries, frustration, self doubt, etc.). Rae’s definitely on track and a welcomed change for the industry… now and many years to come.
